Longs Peak sees thousands of climbers attempting numerous routes every year. It is amazing more people do not perish on this challenging mountain. Tourists poorly equipted starting much too late in the day are fortunate to come back unscathed. We have climbed Longs several times.

Journal Entry July 9, 2016: I was still tired from climbing Sharkstooth the day before. The 1:30 am alarm was not my friend! I stayed with Jonathan Hauger who lives in Estes Park, so this is my first time climbing Longs where I slept in a bed the night before. Jonathan and I had a breathtaking day enjoying every aspect of Longs.

December, 2023: I am sitting with Jonathan looking at Longs Peak from the window in his room at Medical Center of the Rockies. He is so fortunate to be alive. Jonathan has had two brain surgeries. It is AMAZING how good he looks and sounds! He is already planning the hikes and places he will visit when recovered.

July 24, 2024: We met Jonathan and Andrea for celebration hiking! We are celebrating life! He is incredibly strong after going through this near death experience.
